Herotron owns and operates two electron accelerators
(20 MEV and 20kW; 10 MEV and 80 kW) that have an annual capacity of up to 150m carats of Gemstones
or 70.000 tons of cross linking or sterilization material , and a one-of-a-kind sorting machine and a Hi-Res Gamma Spectrometer.
During the last 30 years Zimmermann BCS Group has built up unique process know-how for coloration of
gemstones like white topaz, rough, cut and preform. BCS functions as the face to the customer and has
exclusive contracts with four nuclear reactors for neutron treatment of gemstones.
Besides color enhancement of gemstones Herotron's capabilities also include other industrial applications such as:
- polymer modification, like cross linking or degradation
- semiconductor enhancement
- radiation curing of high performance polymer compound materials
- bioreduction (e.g. sterilization) to effectively reduce or eliminate microbial organisms.
Herotron´s Quality Management System for Material and Product Treatment and Improvements using
Accelerated Electrons is fully ISO 9001:2008 certified (TüV SüD Management Service GmbH
Certificate No. 12 100 36572 TMS). The upgrading of the Quality Management System for
ISO 13485, ISO 11137, GMP and the environmental management systems ISO 14001 is currently in progress.
